This placement would suit... high flying school leavers who are looking to make the most of their gap year before uni by combining work with travel, who would thrive in a challenging professional environment. WHAT IS THE SCHOLARS SCHEME?A sponsorship programme which runs from the start of your gap year and right through to when you graduate from uni, offering you the combination of high quality work, financial support and still giving you the time to travel! WHO ARE DELOITTE? We are one of the UKs leading professional services firms and we essentially provide financial and business related advice to large corporations and wealthy individuals. We work across the areas of Audit, Tax, Consulting and Corporate Finance but all of our service lines have the aim of using their expertise and experience to improve the way our clients run their businesses and enable them, at the end of the day, to make more money!
WHAT DO SCHOLARS DO? This is not your commonly known work experience programme where you get paid very little (if any) money and the highlight of your day is making a pot of tea. As a Scholar, you are expected to perform the same role as our graduate employees (who are at least three years older), we provide you with the same training as our graduates and therefore expect the same commitment and quality of work from you. Regardless of whether you are working in Audit, Tax, Consulting or Corporate Finance you will be working in project teams dealing with and providing assistance to our clients on a daily basis. Your tasks may range from interviewing a member of client staff, analysing and interpreting financial information, to writing a summary document which outlines the client’s business... the possibilities are endless. One thing is certain though, and that is that you will be given responsibility and challenging work from day one - so this isn’t for the faint hearted! The Scholars Scheme is offered in the following offices around the UK: London, St Albans, Gatwick, Reading, Bristol, Southampton, Jersey, Birmingham, Cambridge, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast. Once at uni, Scholars are asked to be ambassadors for us on their campus, to encourage people to consider Deloitte for their first job after uni. This involves such arduous things as attending drinks nights being hosted by Deloitte, getting sponsorship for the societies you are involved in and organising recruitment events of your own for your friends. For this reason, we need our Scholars to be the people who are going to be getting really stuck into uni life. WHAT DO SCHOLARS GET? Our Scheme is unique in the sense that we offer the combination of high quality work experience, money for travelling and then continued sponsorship through university. Our Scholars receive the following: - Seven-month paid gap year placement (around £19k pro rata in London for example) - £1,500 travel bursary - £1,500 academic bursary each year of university - Additional paid placements (minimum four weeks per year) throughout university. Our users say..."One of the best aspects of the scheme is the £1,500 travel bursary that gets paid into your March pay cheque. It’s safe from tax and you don’t get it until you need it: just before you go travelling. You’ve got the remainder of your gap year to spend it, friends in the Scholars Scheme to accompany you and the World waiting for you. I’m really looking forward to sunshine, food and adventure!" - Hannah Perry. WHAT NOW?
