Meet the au pairs...Brittany Cowen is currently working as an au pair in Connecticut. "I'm currently working as part of the Au Pair in America programme. I have to say that I love every moment of it! I’ve always wanted to travel and work at the same time so Au Pair in America is perfect for me, plus Connecticut is a great place. It isn’t too big but it's close to New York City and Boston. On the weekends, my friends and like go to college football games, shop at the mall and visit NYC. My main role is to look after three kids: a three year old little girl and two boys aged nine and 12. My host family is great. They treat me as one of their own and respect me for who I am. I start my day at about 7.30am when the parents leave for work. I’ll get up to make the kids' breakfast, help pack their bags and take the boys to the school bus. For most of the day it’s just the little girl and me. We have great fun together painting and playing outside. Before I know it it’s 3pm and the boys are back from school! I have to make sure that they get on with their homework until their parents get home around 5pm. I also help out around the house and do the kids’ laundry twice a week. The week just goes so quickly! Because most of my weekdays are taken up with work, I decided to join the Trek America study and travel tour for a week so that I could gain my educational credits. I saw so many wonderful places all over California, Nevada and Arizona - what a great way to see America! I’ve also travelled quite a lot with my friends. Most recently we visited Florida and to Disneyland. Au Pair in America is a fantastic opportunity; to visit a different country and explore its surroundings is amazing. I’ve made friends from all over the world and seen places I have always dreamt of. When I go home I’ll take a lifetime of memories with me."
